A little History lesson:
In the 70s Nike named the shoe “the Blazer” after it's regional NBA team, the Portland Trail Blazers. Beloved for its simplicity, the Nike Blazer was one of the most technologically advanced shoes for basketball at the time.
As a funny side note, the closely similar style "the Bruin" was named after another west coast basketball team, the (UC) LA Bruins.
